Three people rescued from burning flats

Fire crews have helped rescue a man and woman from their apartment after a block of flats caught fire in Co Antrim.

The fire was spotted in a communal stairwell at the Ashley Park complex in Carrickfergus at around 9pm last night.

Another man, who initially raised the alarm, was also rescued after finding himself trapped in his flat.

The three individuals were later received treatment for smoke inhalation.

Police investigating the blaze have not ruled out the possibility that it was started deliberately.
