Union To Open Community Centre In Milton
Unite the union is opening a community centre in Milton, Stoke-on-Trent on Wednesday, 25 November, which will support the local community during the tough times caused by the government's austerity agenda.
The new centre at Hardman Centre, Millrise Road, Milton, Stoke-on-Trent, ST2 7DN will have its grand opening at 12.00 when the public and media will be able to meet the volunteers and see what the centre has to offer.
The centre will initially be open on Wednesdays, offering help and support for individuals and for the community as a whole.
From January 2016, it will also open on Fridays. The centre, which will be staffed by volunteers, will allow people to learn new skills, provide support with welfare problems and support for people looking for work.
The centre will also become a hub for the local community to campaign against detrimental welfare changes.
Unite regional community coordinator Shaun Pender said: "I am really proud of what the Stoke Unite Community branch has achieved. It has built a community resource that will offer strong support to many of those who have suffered from the government attacks on the vulnerable.
"With more cuts to come in tax credits and housing benefit, many more working families are going to need advice and support."
