Parades Commission re-appointed for a further two years
The chairman and current members of Northern Ireland's Parades Commission have been re-appointed for a further two years, it was announced today.
The Commission's current membership agreed to the two year extension in order to see out the implementation of the Quigley Report's recommendations which would require primary legislation that cannot be put in place before the 2005 marching season.
Paying tribute to the work of the Commission, Secretary of State, Paul Murphy said: "It cannot have escaped anyone's notice that this year has seen the most peaceful marching season for some considerable time. The Parades Commission has contributed materially to this outcome and I am delighted that Sir Tony Holland and his colleagues have agreed to remain in post for a further two years."
Sir Tony Holland will remain on as Parades Commission chairman.
