Funeral Of Couple Who Died In South Africa Takes Place

The funeral of a couple who died while they were on honeymoon in South Africa has taken place at a church in Holywood.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at the funeral of John and Lynette Rogers at the First Holywood Presbyterian Church on Monday.

The couple drowned after getting caught in a riptide at Plettenberg Bay on 23 October.

Rev Noble McNeely, who married the couple, conducted the joint funeral service.

Lynette, 26, was a physiotherapist who worked at the Ulster Hospital and her husband John, 28, was an engineering graduate.

After the tragedy their families released a statement which said: "It has come as a great shock to both the Reilly and Rodgers families to learn of the sudden and tragic events in South Africa, which has taken the lives of Lynette and John.

"Our happiness in sharing their recent wedding has been thoroughly devastated. Both were very dearly loved and brought us great joy."
