DUP MLA Appointed Junior Minister

DUP MLA Emma Pengelly has been appointed as Junior Minister in the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM).

Mrs Pengelly currently sits on the Finance Committee.

First Minister Peter Robinson said: "I have every confidence that Emma will be an excellent Junior Minister. She has a vast and in-depth knowledge of the many issues the Department deals with and I have no doubt that she will use her experience, commitment and talent to drive initiatives forward that will improve the lives of everyone in Northern Ireland."

Mrs Pengelly said: "I am delighted to accept the appointment of Junior Minister in OFMDFM. I have developed a sound understanding of my new role through my experience as a Special Adviser and I look forward to the challenges that this new post will present me with."

Fire Service Support Centre Opened
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) has today opened its new Service Support Centre worth £8.2 million at the Boucher Road in Belfast. The facility will be a hub for maintenance, service and repairs of fire appliances and operational equipment.

Future Of Childcare Consultation Launched
Junior Ministers Jonathan Bell and Jennifer McCann are encouraging people to come forward and deliver their views on the future of childcare in the province. The Junior Ministers were speaking at a public consultation event on the Executive’s Childcare Strategy at the MAC in the Cathedral Quarter, Belfast.

Junior Ministers "Walk A Mile"
Junior Ministers Jennifer McCann and Jonathon Bell have been participating in the "Walk a Mile in our Shoes" event at Stormont. The event was organised by Guide Dogs NI and involved the Junior Ministers putting on blindfolds and guided through a short route. The route saw the Ministers taken across roads and negotiating steps and obstacles.

Stormont Abuse Enquiry Begins In October
An enquiry into institutionalised abuse in Northern Ireland will begin on October 1, it has been revealed. The Acknowledgement Forum of the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry will investigate long-running abuse in the Catholic Church and state-run institutions throughout Northern Ireland.
