First Female High Court Judges Appointed

Northern Ireland's first female high court judges have been appointed.

Denise McBride QC and Siobhan Keegan QC were both sworn in by the Lord Chief Justice on Friday, 23 October, in the Royal Courts of Justice, Belfast.

Gerry McAlinden QC, Chairman of the Bar Council, welcomed the appointments.

He said: "As Chairman of the Bar Council I would like to congratulate Denise McBride QC and Siobhan Keegan QC on their historic appointment to the High Court. I have worked closely with Siobhan and Denise on the Bar Council and was struck by their dedication to representing our members. Their absence will be felt but it is a well-deserved honour as they will go down in history as Northern Ireland's first female High Court Judges."
