Bomb Discovered Could Have Been Found By Children - PSNI

A bomb discovered on the outskirts of west Belfast could have been found by children and caused serious injury, police have said.

Several homes and a nursery had to be evacuated after an "improvised explosive" was found in the Colin Road area in Poleglass on Tuesday afternoon.

The object has been taken for forensic examination.

Det Insp Stuart Griffin said: "This device had the capability to cause serious injury and was left in an open public area where anybody, including children, could have found it.

“I would ask anyone with any information about this incident to contact their local police station on the non-emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Sinn Féin Councillor Stephen Magennis said: "This is a built up area with many people using a pathway nearby as a short cut which leads up to a school.

"This disruption is unacceptable and those who are responsible for this device need to explain to this community what it will achieve."
