Man Armed With Crossbow Arrested In Antrim

A man, believed to have been armed with a crossbow, has been arrested in the Central Park area of Antrim.

The 41-year-old has been detained on suspicion of Class B drugs and threats to kill and assault police.

Detectives were called to an address after receiving a report of a man armed with a crossbow on Tuesday evening.

Chief Inspector Stephen Reid said: "This was a dangerous situation for everyone involved, including police officers and neighbours.

"We are pleased that the arrest was made without serious injury to any person. We discovered around 11 cannabis plants inside the house and recovered two loaded crossbows."

The man received hospital treatment overnight and is being questioned by police.

The incident happened in the Ballygore Road area of Antrim in May 2015 while police were responding to a 999 call about a man acting aggressively with a hatchet.

The Clydesdale horse was found with a metal bolt lodged in its jaw, having been grazing on the Creggan estate when it was attacked.

Man Arrested Over Crossbow Attack
Police are investigating after a 29-year-old man was shot with a crossbow as he sat in his car. The attack happened on Belgravia Avenue in the Lisburn Road area at about 17:20 on Wednesday. The victim was sitting in a car along with a 29-year-old woman, who escaped injury. The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
