Resurfacing scheme to begin in Co Down
A £400,000 resurfacing scheme near Newry, Co Down is set to begin next week.
The work, on the A1 Dublin Road between the Forkhill Road roundabout and the border, will take place on two separate sections and traffic arrangements will be put in place to minimise disruption.
A Roads Service spokesperson said: “This is essential work that will strengthen the road, improve skidding resistance and the running surface for the safety and comfort of road users. It will complement resurfacing work already carried out on the route in Spring 2003.
“The scheme has been carefully programmed in order to minimise inconvenience to the travelling public. However, there may be some disruption due to the works.”
A temporary 40 mph speed restriction will be introduced on the A1 road from Jacks Road to the Border, from 29 September, for a six-week period.
From 13 October for a four-week period, a further temporary 40 mph speed restriction will be introduced from a point 450 metres south of the Forkhill Road roundabout, to the Barracric Road junction. Traffic control will be in operation during the works and drivers should expect delays.
