Forests Providing Financial Benefits
Northern Ireland's forests are providing financial benefits to local communities and businesses, Forestry Minister Michele O'Neill has said.
The latest report from the Forest Service shows there are 4.7m annual visits to woodlands, with 84% of people reporting that they find the forests and facilities excellent or very good.
Welcoming the news and the benefits to local buisnesses, Minister O'Neill said: "Local communities are benefitting financially from the increased number of visitors to our forests. Including accommodation bookings, £76.1million was spent by visitors during their overall visit. Significantly, £21.2million of this was spent in local authority areas by visitors who specified their only reason for visiting the area was the forest attraction. These forest visits included approximately 380,000 from outside the north of Ireland."

Local Businessman Benefits From Empty Premises Relief Scheme
Finance Minister Sammy Wilson has congratulated a local businessman from Carrickfergus who is benefitting from the Empty Premises Rate Relief scheme. Mr Colin Campbell has opened a scooter shop on West Street in Carrickfergus and will now benefit from a 50% discount on his rates for 12 months.

FURTHER LIFT OF FMD FARM RESTRICTIONS
MINISTER for Social Development, Maurice Morrow, has announced that the restriction due to foot and mouth disease (FMD) on officials from his department visiting farms, has been lifted. The Minister also confirmed that farm residents claiming benefits can resume ‘signing on’ from Monday 23 July.

Unemployment Rate Continues To Fall But Still Highest In UK
The number of unemployed people in Northern Ireland has fallen for the 15th month in a row, down by 800 in April, and now standing at 56,100, according to the latest labour market figures published today by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).
