Three Rescued After Boat Capsizes Off Calf Island
Three people have been rescued after their boat capsized off Calf Island, at the northern end of Strangford Lough on Sunday.
The three men had been out on an 11ft Dory when it broke down and capsized leaving them to make their way to the nearby Calf Island and raise the alarm.
Portaferry RNLI lifeboat crew received a report about the incident at 7pm and arrived on the scene fifteen minutes later. The three men had managed to pull the vessel ashore and it remained grounded while they waited for help.
Portaferry RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Brian Baille said: "The three young men were cold and wet after their ordeal but were thankfully unharmed. They were able to raise the alarm by phone and the lifeboat was on scene very quickly."

The Northern Ireland Policing Board today outlined three key areas it wants to improve on over the next three years. The Board, which published its aims in its new Corporate Plan for the period 1 April 2005 – 31 March 2008, said it wants to improve on ‘Effectiveness, Efficiency and Public Confidence’.

Three man and three teenage boys have been charged to appear in court in connection with violent disorder in Belfast on Tuesday, 06 August. The men, aged 26, 28 and 41, were arrested in connection to the report of damage to homes and cars in the Rathlin Street area of Belfast.

DAERA Funds Peatland Restoration Projects
The Department of Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has announced the recipients of grant funding for peatland restoration projects. Five nonprofit organisations in Northern Ireland and the border region have been awarded a total of £2.7 million to address the degradation of peatlands and their contribution to climate change.
