Man Charged With Second Murder

A man has been charged with a second murder following the deaths of two men in south Belfast.

Albert Armstrong from Mahee Close in the Belvoir area was charged last week over the murder of senior loyalist Colin 'Bap' Lindsay.

He has now been formally charged with the murder of Steve Wightman who died as a result of his injuries.

Mr Lindsay and Mr Wightman were killed after being attacked by a samurai sword last Wednesday.

Mr Armstrong has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in court via video link on 14 August.

An Alliance MLA has issued a call for support for the police following a shooting in Comber. The gun attack on Sunday night, 15 March, is being treated as attempted murder. A man in his 50s had driven into a yard in the Ballycreely Road area of the town when a masked man armed with a suspected handgun emerged from a hedge.

Man Charged With Murder Of Senior Loyalist
A 46-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a senior loyalist in south Belfast. Colin 'Bap' Lindsay, a well-known member of the Ulster Defence Association (UDA), was killed after an attack in which a samurai type sword was used on Wednesday night.

Simon Tang: Second Murder Charge Withdrawn
A second murder charge over the killing of Chinese restaurateur Simon Tang in 1996 has been withdrawn. Belfast Magistrates' Court has heard the case against Paul Allen will not proceed. Mr Allen, 39, of Drumhoy Drive, Carrickfergus, faced charges over the murder of Simon Tang. Mr Tang was a married father of two.

Three Men Charged In DCI Caldwell Case
Three men have appeared before L'Derry Magistrates Court, charged in connection with the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell. DCI Caldwell was shot a number of times at a sports centre in Omagh in February.
