Call For Unionist Politicians To Show Leadership
Unionist politicians are being called to show leadership after a bonfire was erected approximately 30 metres from peoples homes in east Belfast.
Sinn Féin east Befast Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile said the bonfire in the Chobham Street area poses a threat to local residents.
Councillor Ó Donnghaile said: "The fact that statutory authorities along with community leaders have ceded responsibility to a group of children building this bonfire is unfathomable. This bonfire clearly poses a danger to people's lives, their livelihood and homes.
"Residents are being failed by the Department Regional Development who own the land, the PSNI and Belfast City Council. I am calling on all those with statutory responsibilities for health and safety to make this hazard safe."
