Larne family escape injury in explosion

A Co Antrim family have escaped injury after their home was attacked in Larne early this morning.

A man, his wife and their grown-up son were asleep in their Upper Cairncastle Road home when two devices were thrown at the front of the house.

The resulting explosion broke a window and damaged the driveway. However, all three family members escaped unhurt.

Alliance councillor, John Mathews, condemned the attack and said: "Although there had been a number of pipe bomb attacks in recent years, this summer was a quiet one and last night's attack was unexpected.

"I hope this is not an attempt to stir up trouble in the town again, as people want to get on with their lives without having to worry about paramilitary attacks.

"I would call on those behind the attack to think about what they are doing and stop before someone is seriously injured or killed."
