Jean McConville Murder: Prosecution To Proceed

The prosecution of a veteran republican accused in connection with the murder of Jean McConville is to go ahead.

Following many court extensions to consider their case, prosecutors are to decide today, Thursday, if they will be pursuing a case against Ivor Bell, 78.

Bell, from Ramoan Gardens in west Belfast, was arrested and charged in March last year.

Mrs McConville, a mother of 10, was abducted from her home in 1972.

Bell is charged with aiding and abetting the murder of the widow.

He has also been accused of IRA membership.

No-one has been convicted of her murder.
