Police Granted More Time For Murder Inquiry
Police investigating a murder which took place in Belfast at the weekend have been granted more time to question a 32-year-old man.
The victim was 22-year-old Eamonn Magee Jr, a professional boxer. He was the son of former WBU welterweight champion Eamoon Magee Sr.
Magee Jr was stabbed in the Summerhill Park area of West Belfast on Saturday, 30 May.
Just before 2.40am, police received a report that a man had been stabbed at a house. He was taken to hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Police said a 32-year-old man had been arrested on Sunday, 31 May. He remains in police custody.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector John McVea, described the attack as "vicious".
He said: "Eamonn was visiting a friend in a house that backs onto Summerhill Park and at approximately 2.30am in Saturday 30th May he was attacked as he came out to check for a pizza delivery. Eamonn was stabbed a number of times in the garden of the house he was visiting and later died as a result of his injuries.
"This was a vicious attack and I would appeal to anyone who heard a disturbance in the area of Summerhill Park to contact detectives at Musgrave Street.
"We would also like to hear from anyone who saw a man walking from the area of Beckett's Bar on the Stewartstown Road through the Twinbrook Estate to Summerhill Park and back along this route between 1.30am and 3am."
