Second Device Found In East Belfast
A second device has been found in east Belfast after a pipe bomb was thrown at a house in the Short Strand area, according to the police.
The incident occurred at Strand Walk at around 10.40pm on Monday.
The suspect device, which failed to explode, has been taken away for forensic tests.
Detective Sergeant Armstrong said: "This device had the capacity to cause serious injury and I am appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information about this incident to contact police at Musgrave on 101. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
Sinn Féin Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile has strongly condemned the attacks.
Councillor Ó Donnghaile said: "Last night, homes at Strand Walk were attacked when a device, which the PSNI have described as viable, was thrown.
"Elderly and infirm residents, who have time and time again borne the brunt of attacks on their homes, have been badly shaken at this attack and some have had to leave their homes.
"A further security alert following the discovery of a second pipe bomb in the area has only added to the distress of local residents.
"I have been disturbed by some reports on social media about attacks by 'republicans'. No such attacks have taken place.
"This is a deliberate attempt to stoke up tensions and people should not to allow themselves to be drawn into a negative agenda which a minority in East Belfast appear intent on pursuing."
