Translink Appoints New Group Chief Executive

Translink has appointed Chris Conway as its new Group Chief Executive.

The Chairman of the Board of Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company, John Trethowan, made the announcement.

Mr Trethowan said: "We are delighted with this appointment which follows a recruitment competition that attracted significant interest and a very high calibre field. In Chris Conway we are confident that we have found an experienced and skilled individual. He is the right person to lead Translink, one of Northern Ireland’s most high profile businesses which provides an essential service to so many.

"As a Board we look forward to working with Chris Conway, his Executive team and all the staff in Translink to continue the track record of success, growth and investment the group has delivered over these past years."

Mr Conway will take up the post on 7 September.

Translink To Continue Suspended And Diverted Services
Translink has said that it is considering suspending some bus services for a second night, following two hijacking incidents. The public transport company suspended services on five bus routes at 6:30pm last night, while a number of other bus services were diverted.

Two Arrested In Belfast Hate Crime Incident
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a racially motivated hate crime that occurred in south Belfast on Tuesday, October 1st. According to Chief Inspector Mark Conway, Area Commander for south Belfast, police responded to a report of a disturbance at a business in the Donegall Place area.

Public Urged To Be Vigilant Against Bank Transfer Scam
The PSNI have issued an appeal to the public to be vigilant after a couple from Northern Ireland was swindled out of close to £80,000 in a banking transfer scam. The couple from Armagh were duped after receiving a call on Sunday (13th March) from a person claiming they were from 'The Fraud Squad' of police in London.

Independent Supermarket Jobs Boost
Over 150 jobs are set to be created in Coalisand with the opening of an independent supermarket. Newell Stores will open the 25,000 sq feet supermarket to the public on Weds. Company director Eugene Conway said a further 33 jobs will be created in their Dungannon store.

Health Minister Seeks Urgent Talks On Pay
The Health Minister has confirmed that he has requested an early meeting with health service trade unions to discuss next steps on pay offers for 2024/25. Due to Northern Ireland's budgetary constraints, the Minister is unable to deliver the desired pay settlements for this year.
