UUP Leader Mike Nesbitt 'Acting As A Cheerleader' - Murphy

A Sinn Féin councillor has accused UUP Leader Mike Nesbitt of "acting as a cheerleader" after a meeting with Prime Minster David Cameron.

Mr Conor Murphy made the comments over the Tories cuts agenda.

He said: "The Tories have cut £1.5bn from the Executive's block grant over the last four years, which has had a negative impact on the Executive’s ability to deliver public services.

"They have also been involved in an assault on the welfare state trying to impose savage welfare cuts on people with disabilities, the long term sick and large families.

"Cameron's cabinet of millionaires are now planning to bring forward another £25bn in cuts to welfare and public services."

Mr Murphy said the UUP Leader failed to raise the issue of the proposed cuts with the PM.

He added: "Mike Nesbitt's party stood on an austerity ticket with the Tories in 2010. He failed today to stand up for our public services, people with disabilities and the long term sick and it is clear that he remains little more than a cheerleader for the Tory cuts agenda."
