Delivery Driver Injured Following Car Hijacking
A man has been injured following the hijacking of a car in West Belfast.
The incident occurred on the Whitecliff Parade area on 16 May.
The fast food delivery driver was sitting in his car and approached by two men at approximately 5.35pm.
One of the men asked the victim if he was a taxi driver. After he told them he wasn't, a hijacker pulled the man from the drivers seat.
The man was then elbowed after he tried to retrieve the car keys from the ignition.
He was dragged along the ground as the hijackers drove away.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.
At around 8.25pm, police received a report that the stolen car had crashed through the gates of a leisure centre on the Falls Road and the occupants had fled the scene.
Chief Inspector Norman Haslett said: "This crime is totally unacceptable and caused distress not only to the owner of the vehicle, but also to the wider community of West Belfast as it was later driven in a dangerous and reckless manner.
"We need the help of the community to catch those responsible so I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this hijacking or observed this car between it being stolen at 5.35pm in Whitecliff Parade and being abandoned in the Falls Road area at 8.25pm to contact Police at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101."
