Belfast City helps bmi to record passenger figures
Belfast City Airport has helped bmi break its passenger record for the second consecutive month.
The airline group carried 921,000 passengers carried in August, a 25% increase on the same period last previous year, with Belfast seeing a 29% passenger growth.
Austin Reid, bmi chief executive officer, said: "The wide range of competition in all markets continues to impact upon yield levels.
"The summer holiday period has proved to be very encouraging and we look to see some positive indicators in the business and interline sectors as we move forward. However, there is still some way to go and we continue to focus on a strict expenditure regime and an overall reduction of costs."
The overall load factor for bmi's mainline operations out of London Heathrow grew by two points to 75%, compared to the same month last year.
Other key routes which saw growth in Palma, which grew by 38%, Manchester by 29%, Brussels by 27%, Nice by 15% and Paris by 11%.
