Belfast Zoo Welcomes Three-White-Belted Ruffed Lemurs
Belfast Zoo has welcomed the arrival of three white-belted ruffed lemurs.
The new arrivals were born at the start of April to mother, Mianta and father, Wakka.
Zoo manager, Mark Challis said: "All lemurs are found on the island of Madagascar which has one of the most threatened ecosystems on the planet! White-belted ruffed lemurs are critically endangered and are facing an extremely high risk of extinction. There are only 40 of these lemurs in captivity and every birth is important to the breeding programme and to the survival of the species. You can therefore imagine our delight at being able to play such as active role in their conservation, with the arrival of three white-belted ruffed lemurs."
