Pensioner's Purse Stolen During 'Distraction Burglary'

A pensioner living in Newtownabbey has been the victim of a distraction burglary.

The woman, in her 80s, had her purse stolen during the incident at Glenvarna Green at around 2pm on Wednesday.

The man showed the resident a brief glance of what he claimed was an ID card and entered the house. He was in the property for around half an hour and when he left, the resident noticed her purse was missing.

Detective Sergeant John McKendry said: "This man is described as around 20 years old, 6ft, with brown hair and was wearing a dark jacket with a flag design on left side.

"We would like to hear from anyone with information about this crime or any who noticed the suspect or any other suspicious activity in the Glenvarna Green area on Wednesday."

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Newtownabbey woman attacked by bogus caller
Police in Newtownabbey have appealed for information following a report of a bogus caller in the Greenisland area yesterday morning. Police have said that a a man claiming to be from the water service called to a house in the Old Carrick Road area of the town.
