Escaped Murderer Recaptured In Belfast

A convicted murderer who escaped from police custody on Friday has been arrested in Belfast.

Thomas Valliday, serving a life sentence for the 2008 murder of Frank 'Bap' McGreevy'.

It is understood that Mr Valliday absconded from the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald on Friday.

Police recaptured Mr Valliday on Monday evening. Police said an extensive operation had been launched to track down Mr Valliday, who was considered dangerous.

A 52-year-old man who failed to return to Maghaberry Prison has been arrested. James Valliday had been "unlawfully at large" and was detained at an address in north Belfast on Sunday, 17 December. A 29-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A man has been remanded in custody charged in connection with a murder in Belfast city centre. Christopher Mackin, 31, was fatally shot in Belfast city centre at the beginning of March.

Couple Charged With Mackin Murder
A married couple have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a man in Belfast last week. Charles Stephen Valliday, 40, and Julie-Ann Valliday, 35, of Powerscourt Place, Belfast, are accused of killing Christopher Mackin last Thursday. The 31-year-old victim was shot four times at College Square North in the city.

Ambulance damaged in brick attack
A brick has been thrown through a window of an ambulance in Dunmurry. The incident happened at around 9.50pm on Wednesday. While the driver escaped injury, police condemned the attack saying it had the potential for more serious consequences. This is just the latest in a spate of attacks on ambulance crew in recent times.
