100 Job Losses Following Engineering Firm Closure
Around 100 jobs are to be lost with the closure of the Howden UK factory in East Belfast.
Staff at the factory were informed of the closure on Friday.
In a statement released by the firm, which was formerly known as Sirrocco Engineering, they said the decision had been taken as part of "ongoing efforts to align our business with the needs of customers".
The statement said that come of the current functions and roles will be transferred to a Scottish facility.
Deputy Alliance leader Naomi Long said that the announcement was "concerning news, especially following similar closures in the East Belfast area".
Howden UK said that it would consult employee representatives and trade unions to "minimise the impact of these changes to our associates and the company will endeavour to offer suitable alternative employment to those affected if possible."
