Concerns Raised For B&Q Workers In L'Derry

Concerns have been raised for B&Q workers in L'Derry.

The firm announced it is to close its store at the Faustina Retail Park on the Buncrana Road early next year.

SDLP Foyle Westminster candidate Mark Durkan said the news will come as a huge blow to workers and their families.

He said: "Any news which could adversely affect jobs at B&Q has to be absolutely lamented.

"I have been in contact both yesterday and today with Kingfisher PLC and B&Q to get clarity for staff, and I will continue these efforts to see what can be done to mitigate this.

"However, B&Q have consistently maintained a ‘holding line’ that they will only be issuing a statement on this once all workers have been contacted.

"I would sincerely hope that management at B&Q will be able to keep an operation on some scale at this site."
