Lord Mayor Of Belfast Begins New Role
The new Lord Mayor of Belfast is to begin his role today.
Councillor Arder Carson, the Sinn Fein politician, who represents the Black Mountain district, was elected to Belfast City Council in 2014 and was formerly a councillor in Lisburn.
The 54-year-old, from Andersonstown, is taking the theme 'Lord Mayor for communities' throughout his term.
"This is a new era, a new Council with new powers, new communities and new opportunities," the new Lord Mayor said. "I am delighted to be the first mayor of the new council in these changing and challenging times.
"I want Belfast City Council to be at the heart of Belfast's diverse communities, and equally I want the city's diverse communities to be at the heart of the council. I will use my office and my role to unite the traditional and new communities in this city.
"This is an exciting time for the people of Belfast and its council. As Lord Mayor for communities I look forward with optimism to the 14 months which lie ahead."

8,000 New Homes Needed Across Ards Area
NI Water has announced that the Ards and North Down area will need around 8,000 new homes by 2030. The company made the announcement at the Ards and North Down Borough Council meeting, to update representatives on infrastructure plans going forward and the level of investment needed for the Council area.

Nearly 10,000 New Homes Needed Across Antrim And Newtownabbey
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council have said that they expect almost 10,000 new homes will be needed across the region by 2030. According to the council, Antrim and Ballyclare are expected to be the main hubs for growth, but added that some 9,000 new jobs would be created with the regional expansion.

The party’s 770 council delegates will meet at a Belfast hotel on Friday night to elect a new leader from the trio of candidates: Sir Reg Empey, Alan McFarland and David McNarry.
