Top award for NI ploughman
Two Northern Ireland entrants at this year's World Ploughing Contest have been praised for their efforts.
The 50th World Ploughing Contest, which was held in Ontario, Canada, saw Magherafelt man, David Wright lift a 'Golden Plough' award whilst David Gill from Hillsborough came sixth overall in the competition.
Pat Toal, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: "My congratulations go to David Wright and David Gill for their ploughing prowess. This is an outstanding achievement for the ploughmen and great recognition for Northern Ireland.
"Looking to the future, it is therefore very fitting that David Wright will be able to defend his title on home soil at the 51st World Ploughing Contest taking place at Foyleview Farm, Ballykelly, Co Londonderry from 2-4 September 2004. This will be a major event in the Northern Ireland agri-food calendar attracting visitors from all over the world."
The last time the event was held in Northern Ireland was at Myroe, near Limavady in 1991.
On that occasion, , the 38th World Ploughing Contest, around 15,000 people attended the event, including 3,000 exhibitors and their guests.

Prince Charles attends World Ploughing Contest opening
Prince Charles has attended today's official opening ceremony of the 51st World Ploughing Contest being staged in Ballykelly. During his visit, the Prince of Wales was introduced to representatives from the 28 competing countries and observed both modern and more traditional ploughing methods.

Traffic Warning For South Belfast Ahead Of Northern Ireland Match
Road users are advised to plan for potential traffic delays in the south Belfast area on Friday, 15th November due to the UEFA Nations League football match between Northern Ireland and Belarus. The match will take place at Windsor Park, kicking off at 7.45pm, and it is expected that around 18,000 supporters will attend.

Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots has attended the National Ploughing Championships (NPC) in Ratheniska, Co Laois, for the first time. Now in its 91st year, the NPC is Ireland's largest agricultural event, with expected attendance of approximately 300,000 visitors, 1,700 exhibitors and just over 300 competitors.
