Consumerline Teams Up With nidirect

Consumerline, Northern Ireland's consumer advice service, has teamed up with nidirect, the official government services website.

The new Consumerline section on nidirect brings together advice and information on consumer rights when buying goods and services. It also provides a quick and easy way to make a complaint or get help with a specific enquiry, online.

Consumerline manager, Stephen Thompson said: "We've teamed up with nidirect to give consumers in Northern Ireland better access to consumer advice and information.

"Whether you've had a bad experience with a company or you just want to check on your consumer rights, Consumerline can help."

Alliance Wants To See More Females In STEM Jobs

Alliance Employment and Learning spokesperson, Anna Lo MLA, has said that she hopes to see more women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, but that it will require a change in attitudes towards gender stereotypes.

She said: "The under-representation of women in STEM careers is not just a gender equality issue; there are wider economic consequences to our economy and international competitiveness.

"The workforce of the future will need to be skilled in STEM to meet the growing demands from an economy increasingly dependent on ICT and innovation from research and development. If we fail to inspire our young females, we are not maximising the potential pool of talent from our population.

"It's not easy to replace the scientist-equals-man image which is so deeply embedded in our culture, but we need a culture shift to make these sectors more attractive to women. We need enthusiastic parents, teachers and career advisers to encourage girls to embark on STEM careers."

Resurfacing Scheme To Start In Annacloy

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced that work on a resurfacing scheme on the B2 Annalcoy Road, Annacloy is to start on Monday 30th March.

The scheme will involve the resurfacing of a 760 metre stretch of the B2 Annacloy Road, Annacloy, between the U0145 Cargagh Road junction and the A7 Belfast Road junction.

Mr Kennedy said: "This £85,000 scheme represents a significant investment in the roads infrastructure on the Ballynahinch to Downpatrick route.

"Once work is complete, road users will quickly realise the long term benefits from the new road surface along the stretch."

Man Dies In Workplace Accident In Co Armagh
A man has died in a workplace accident in Co Armagh. It is believed the man was crushed by a road roller while a new road surface was being laid on the Bog Road, Forkhill, on Wednesday, 31 May. Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation.

Woman Killed In Co Armagh Road Collision
A woman in her 30s has been killed in a road crash in Portadown, Co Armagh. The woman was hit by a car as she was walking on the side of the Moy Road at around 9.45pm on Tuesday. The road was closed for a short time but it has been reopened. Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
