Orange Order Welcomes An Post Somme Stamp
The Orange Order has welcomed news that An Post, the Irish postal service, is to release a stamp to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme next year.
The Orange Institution said it had asked An Post to consider producing the stamp to commemorate the 1916 battle.
Orange Order Director of Services, Dr David Hume, said: "We are delighted that An Post is to commemorate the Battle of the Somme through this stamp programme. We know it will be of great significance to the Protestant community, particularly in the border counties of the Republic of Ireland.
"Many members of the 36th Ulster Division from Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal were to serve in the Battle of the Somme and sadly many of them did not return home having made the supreme sacrifice on the front line."

Trimble welcomes Somme grant
The Northern Ireland Office has awarded a grant of £385,000 to the Somme Association to help pay for a small plot of land in France to commemorate those who died in the World War 1 battle. The 36th Ulster Division used Thiepval Wood, which is close to the site of the Battle of Somme, as it prepared for the start of the 1916 Somme Offensive.

Thousands Of Orangemen Attend Parades To Mark Battle Of The Somme
Thousands of Orangemen attended church parades held across Northern Ireland to mark to the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. The formal county memorial services took place in Armagh, Omagh and Cookstown, Enniskillen, Limavady and Dromore. A separate drumhead service is due to take place in Co Antrim next weekend.

Battle Of The Somme Commemoration Planned
A service to remember those who died during the Battle of the Somme is to take place in Carrickfergus this weekend. The Battle will be commemorated over 100 years later at the Knockagh Memorial on Sunday 30 June in an event organised by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

A number of towns and cities across Northern Ireland have held overnight vigils to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. Several people attended a vigil in Newtownards, Co Down, to remember those who fought in the Somme. The event took place at the Somme Museum and ended with a solemn ceremony.
