Call For Police To Recruit More Women

The PSNI is being urged to recruit more women police officers.

Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane said she raised her concerns to an all-male panel at a Policing Board meeing.

She said: "Assistant chief constable Alastair Finlay claimed there was a problem attracting female recruits because too few women are passing the fitness test.

"Not only is that insulting to women, it could also put off potential recruits, particularly young women.

"Until there are more women in the PSNI, young women will not have positive roll models in policing and will be reluctant to join."
