Power Restored To Homes In County Antrim

Electricity has been restored to most homes in County Antrim.

Thousands of properties in Cullybackey, Ballymena and Portglenone were left without power on Monday morning following a fault at Northern Ireland Electricity's (NIE) substation in Ballymena.

Around 20 homes are still without electricity.

Injuries After Electricity Poles Cut Down
Two men were taken to hospital on Monday evening after electricity poles were attacked and cut down in west Belfast. A 25-year-old was arrested after the incident, which left 1,400 homes without electricity. The NIE structure at the substation in the Glen Road/Suffolk Road area was cut down just before 9pm last night.

Hundreds Of New Homes To Be Developed In Co Down
Approximately 50 construction jobs are to be created as part of a £50million project to develop 900 new homes in Comber, Co Down. Northern Ireland homebuilders Hagan Homes has started construction work on the first phase of the 'Enler Village' site on the Newtownards Road, which includes the development of 17 new homes.

Rathlin's Big 'Switch' Pulled
Rathlin islanders are at last able to enjoy a dependable supply of electricity. Yesterday, NI Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy officially switched on a new 10.4km subsea electricity cable which extends from Ballycastle to Rathlin Island.

Minister announces £30m electricity initiative
Enterprise Minister, Ian Pearson has announced plans to invest £30 million in a new initiative aimed at reducing electricity bills for Northern Ireland's businesses. It is hoped that the funding, which is part of a draft budget, will help businesses save 10% on their electricity bills.

Electricity cut leaves 1,300 homes without power
Over 1,300 homes in Co Down were left without electricity supplies on Wednesday following severe damage to an underground high voltage electricity cable in the area. The damage was caused by a contractor working on drainage at a nearby golf club and it left residents in the Marino and Craigavad areas of Holywood without power for a couple of hours.
