Man Robs Pharmacy In Dunmurry

A man has robbed a pharmacy in the Kingsway area of Dunmurry.

The incident happened on Saturday (21 February) at around 5.10pm.

Police have said the a man, who was armed with a large knife, entered the premises and demanded staff hand over money and drugs. The man made off with a sum of cash and a number of boxes of Diazepam, they added.

He has been described as being approximately 5'11" tall, of slim build and wearing a cream coloured coat, grey track bottoms and a green scarf. He was also wearing gloves.

No-one was injured in the incident, but staff are said to have been left shaken.

In a statement, Detective Constable Fiona Mawhinney said: "Diazepam is an extremely potent drug that should only be taken if prescribed by a physician. It can be extremely dangerous and even fatal in the wrong hands.

"People should only take medicines in consultation with their healthcare professionals who have access to patient health records, who are qualified to assess their medical needs and can take into account the risks and benefits associated with every medicine."

NI Film Misses Out On Oscar Glory

A short film made in Northern Ireland, Boogaloo and Graham, has missed out on an Oscar at this year's ceremony.

The film, nominated in the live action short category, was widely tipped to win an award following its success at the BAFTA's earlier this month. However, at Sunday's ceremony in Hollywood, it missed out to short film 'The Phone Call'.

'Boogaloo and Graham' tells the story of two brothers – played by Riley Hamilton and Aaron Lynch, who are both from Northern Ireland – who learn the facts of life with the help of their two pet chickens – Boogaloo and Graham.

£200k Road Improvement Scheme For Portadown

A £200,000 road resurfacing scheme is to begin at Obin Street in Portadown.

The work will be carried out at a section of the road, from Park Road to approximately Number 128.

Preparatory works are already underway in the area, with work on the carriageway expected to commence on Thursday 5 March. The scheme is scheduled for completion by Friday 3 April, subject to favourable weather conditions. The road to be closed to through traffic during this time, with diversions in place for motorists.

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy said: "This is a significant investment of around £200,000 and the work will greatly improve the surface quality of this route in Portadown."
