Rise In Year-Long Unemployed
The number of people unemployed for one year or more in Northern Ireland rose 8.2 % to 55.6% over the period October - December 2014, according to the latest labour market figures.
The unemployment rate for 18-24 year olds was 17.8%, down 5.4% over the year, compared to the UK average rate of 14.2%.
The Northern Ireland seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, was estimated at 5.7% for the period October - December 2014, indicating a drop of 0.3% from the rate recorded in the previous quarter and a 1.6% fall from the rate recorded one year ago.
The Northern Ireland unemployment rate was the same as the UK average rate.
The number of people claiming unemployment related benefits stood at 48,200 in January 2015, down 1,700 from the revised figure for the previous month.
Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster said: "The decrease in the unemployment rate, alongside the continued decrease in the Northern Ireland claimant count is encouraging. The number of claimants has fallen in each of the last 25 months, which is the most sustained decrease since the series began.
"The last month has seen continuing evidence of job creation and significant investment in business for Northern Ireland. However, fluctuating markets mean challenges remain and yesterday's announcement by Bombardier is a regrettable result of reduced customer demand for some of its products."
It was announced yesterday that Bombardier Aerospace in Belfast will cut 130 jobs .
"Invest NI officials continue to maintain close contact with Bombardier management in supporting the company's ongoing activities in Northern Ireland," Minister Foster said. "I very much hope that the flexible nature of the arrangements Bombardier has in place means that those who are losing their position will be able to return when the situation changes."
