Attempted Distraction Burglary, Ballyhackmore

An elderly woman has been the victim of an attempted distraction burglary in Ballyhackmore, Belfast.

At about 10:00 on the morning of Tuesday 17 February, two men called at the home of a woman in her eighties in Ravenscroft Avenue.

The men claimed to represent housing authorities and were permitted entry.

But the woman then became uncomfortable and told the pair to leave. They left empty-handed.

Police said it is thought the men might have been accompanied by a third male who was not seen by the occupant.

The first male is described as in his mid to late 20s, approximately 5ft 10 in height, slim build wearing a navy baseball cap, light blue rain jacket, denim jeans and shiny shoes.

The second was around the same age, build and height. He was wearing a navy baseball cap, navy jacket and jeans.

The third male, also believed to be in his 20s, was slim, approximately 6ft in height, wearing a brownish blazer and dark jeans.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact CID at Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.

Farmer Convicted At Lisburn Court

A farmer has been convicted of one charge of failing to notify the Department of Agriculture of the birth of 16 animals and one charge of failing to notify the movement of 23 bovine animals off his holding.

66-year-old Gilbert Watson of Lowtown Road, Glenavy, Co Antrim, was convicted at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on 17 February 2015.

He pleaded guilty and was fined £600 plus £22 costs and £15 offenders levy.

Man Fined Over Pollution Offence

A County Down man has pleaded guilty and been fined a total of £300 plus £44 Court Costs and £15 Offenders Levy at Lisburn Magistrates' Court.

Christopher Rea, Fort Road, Ballylesson, Belfast was fined for making an unconsented discharge to a waterway.

Suspended Sentence For £3k Benefit Fraud

A man has been convicted at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court for benefit fraud.

26-year-old Eoin Digney of Springbank Drive, Dunmurry claimed Income Support and Carers Allowance totalling £3,211.20 while failing to declare employment. He was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A woman was convicted at Lisburn Magistrate’s Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to. Clare Day, 34, of Killaney Avenue, Lisburn claimed Housing Benefit totalling £12,269 while failing to declare employment. She was given a two year unconditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £43.

Man Jailed For Life After Pleading Guilty To Murder
A man has been jailed for life for murdering a woman in his flat. Kaspars Stamers, 29, pleaded guilty to murdering Ksenjia Vorosilina. He appeared at Craigavon Crown Court today. The 28-year-old woman was found stabbed to death at Stamers' home in Warren Grove, Lisburn, on 28 May last year.

Woman Charged With Attempted Murder After Man Stabbed In Co Down
A 36-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in Co Down. The 54-year-old victim was stabbed in the Manor Court area in Moira on Monday. He is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital. The woman is to appear at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
