45 Trafficking Victims Rescued In 2014

45 potential victims of human trafficking were rescued in Northern Ireland last year, according to the National Crime Agency.

This represented 2% of the total number of potential victims of trafficking rescued across the UK in 2014 and was a 10% increase on Northern Ireland's figures for the previous year.

Of those rescued in Northern Ireland, 16 were female and 29 were male, with eight having been a minor when they were exploited. Three females said they had been sexually exploited.

Almost half were from Romania (22) and 10 were from China, with the remainder being mostly from Albania, Vietnam and Lithuania.

Five potential victims of human trafficking have been rescued by the police following operations across Belfast. Two women, aged 36 and 24, have been arrested on a number of offences including human trafficking, controlling prostitution for gain, and brothel keeping, and are assisting with enquiries.

21 Human Trafficking Victims Rescued By Police
16 potential human trafficking victims have been rescued in south Armagh, police have confirmed. Officers searched premises in Newtownhamilton last Friday and have spent a number of days working with colleagues in partner agencies to identify the individuals who may have been trafficked.

Men Charged After 20 Trafficking Victims Rescued
Two men have been charged by detectives investigating labour exploitation after 20 people thought to have been victims of human trafficking were rescued in a major police operation. Detectives from the PSNI's Organised Crime Branch arrested three men as part of the operation, which has been running for several days.
