Pair Arrested Over West Belfast Assault

Two people have been arrested by detectives investigating a serious assault in the Springfield Avenue area of west Belfast on Thursday 5 February.

The two men, aged 26, were arrested in north Belfast yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder.

The arrests follow the assault of a 35-year-old man at about 21:50 close to Springfield Court. He remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Women Threatened With Knife, South Belfast

Police have appealed for information after an attempted armed robbery in the Cromac Street area of south Belfast on Friday evening.

Just before 23:00 it was reported that two women were walking along Cromac Street when they were approached by an unknown male.

The male demanded they hand over their bags and phones and when they refused, he took out a knife and threatened them.

The women then ran off and the suspect fled empty handed in the direction of the Markets area.

The suspect is described as being aged in his late teens or early 20s, 5’4” tall, with dark coloured hair. He was wearing a shiny blue and silver coloured hooded top and dark track bottoms.

Appeal Over North Belfast Assault

Police have launched an appeal following an assault in the Somerdale Park area of north Belfast on the morning of 7 February.

It was reported before midday that a 17-year-old man was assaulted near the Clarendon Pitches. He sustained an injury to his head after being struck with the chain of a dog lead.

The attacker is described as being aged in his late 30s, of medium build, approximately 5’10” tall, with dirty fair cropped hair. He was wearing a light green coloured padded jacket and blue jeans.

'Hate Crime' Reported In Bessbrook

Criminal damage has been reported on a memorial in the Kingsmill Road area of Bessbrook.

Police received a report at around 16:15 on Saturday 7 February that paint had been daubed on the memorial, which commemorates ten Protestant workmen killed by the IRA in 1976.

The incident is being treated as a hate crime.

Afghanistan Veteran On Rape Charge
A bomb-blasted former soldier has appeared in court in Belfast charged with rape and false imprisonment. Gerald Verner, 23, of Forthriver Park, who was deafened by a bomb in Afghanistan, is also accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm, sexual assault and threats to kill against the same woman.

Investigation Launched After Reported Rape In North Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after a woman was allegedly raped in north Belfast. The incident happened on the Cavehill Road in the Waterworks area at around 8.30pm on Wednesday, 17 May. Enquiries are ongoing. No further details have been released.

Man Seriously Attacked In South Belfast
Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously attacked in south Belfast. The assault occurred at a property in the Wauchope Court area on New Year's Eve. The man, aged in his 20s, is being treated in hospital. Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Arrested Over Serious Assault In Belfast City Centre
A man has been arrested in connection with an assault in Belfast city centre in the early hours of Sunday 02 April. Detective Sergeant Kennedy said: "Shortly after 4:05am, it was reported that three men were assaulted in the area by another man. Three 18-year-old men were taken to hospital for their injuries.

Micheal McGibbon Murder: Man And Woman Arrested
Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Michael McGibbon in north Belfast. Mr McGibbon, 33, was shot a number of times in an alleyway in the Ardoyne area on Friday, 15 April. He was taken to hospital to be treated, however he died from his injuries.
