Knives Recovered From Murder Scene

Police investigating the murder of a man on Belfast's Botanic Avenue in the early hours of Wednesday morning have revealed more details of the case.

The victim is believed to be Pakistani national and died after being stabbed "a number of times".

Police said they were alerted to the scene by a passerby who reported the man lying in the street with a number of injuries.

A suspect is in custody and is believed to be a male in his 30's, originally from Somalia. The suspect was arrested in the immediate area of the victim and two knives, believed to be the murder weapons, were recovered from the scene.

Police are investigating whether the two men may have argued on India Street, off Botanic Avenue, prior to the murder. It is understood police have searched a house on India Street.

Police renewed their appeal for witnesses, urging anyone who might have seen anything to come forward.
