RNLI Responded To Almost 600 Incidents Last Year

The latest figures from the RNLI show that the charity responded to a total of 565 incidents in 2014.

The charities nine volunteer lifeboats launched 261 times, with a total of 281 people brought to shore in search and rescue operations. During the summer season lifeguards assisted 284 people on 10 beaches.

The figures also revealed that 35% of rescue operations took place in darkness.

RNLI rescue 164 people during 2003
Northern Ireland lifeboats rescued 164 people during 2003, new figures revealed today. The latest rescue statistics showed that RNLI lifeboats in Northern Ireland were launched a total of 198 times during 2003 and that Portrush was the busiest of the province's lifeboat station's with 52 launches.

Body Found In Missing Person Search
The search for a "high-risk missing person" in north Belfast has sadly ended with the discovery of a body. Volunteers from the Community Rescue Service (CRS) were deployed to the area on Tuesday morning, 28 May, to assist in the search for a person who had been missing from their home for some time.

Three People Hospitalised In Separate Rescue Operations
Two people have been taken to hospital after they were rescued from deep water near Erneside Shopping Centre in Enniskillen. The Fire and Rescue Service were called out, but it is understood that a man on his boat had already helped the man and woman to safety.

NI unemployment rate falls slightly
The seasonally adjusted figures indicate a small drop in unemployment in Northern Ireland. The Labour Force Survey (LFS) estimated that 34,000 people (4.2%) were out of work in the period October - December 2006. The unemployment rate of 4.2% represents an estimated decrease of 0.

Aurion chosen for City and Guilds e-learning initiative
Belfast-based e-learning company Aurion have secured a £100,000 contract to develop the UK City and Guilds first e-learning programme, called Learning for Living.
