Man Guilty Of Fraudulent Prescription
A 23-year-old man has been found guilty at Lisburn Magistrates' Court of attempting to fraudulently obtain prescription medication not intended for him.
Aaron Jackson of 42 F Glenmore Park, Lisburn, was found guilty of one count of making a false instrument and one count of using a false instrument.
The court was told Mr Jackson had amended the quantity of the prescription from five to 50 Nitrazepam tablets and presented this at a community pharmacy in order to obtain medication that was not prescribed to him.
He will be sentenced on 5 February 2015.
Mark Harvey, Assistant Director of Counter Fraud and Probity Services, Business Services Organisation, said: "It is important we send a clear a message that fraud will not be tolerated because of the direct impact it has on the delivery of frontline services.
"In this instance the vigilance shown by staff both in the community pharmacy and the GP Out of Hours facility which ensured that this individual was unsuccessful in obtaining a potentially harmful quantity of medication."

The Public Health Agency (PHA) warning focuses in particular on the dangers of vaping 'Spice', a synthetic drug which mimics the effects of cannabis.

A County Down pharmacist has been fined £25,000 for allowing an unqualified worker to supply prescription medication such as methadone and pregabalin. The crime at Gerard Maginn's Harts Pharmacy on Main Street, Newcastle, was discovered last year during an inspection audit.
