High Sheriff Of Belfast Sworn In
North Belfast Councillor Gareth McKee has been sworn in as the new High Sheriff of Belfast.
The DUP politician, 28, represents the Oldpark area of Belfast and replaces party colleague Lydia Patterson in the role.
"I am both honoured and delighted to be given the opportunity to take on the prestigious role as High Sheriff of Belfast. I will do my upmost to serve all the people of our city to the best of my ability," he said.
Councillor McKee's appointment was made by Secretary of State Theresa Villiers following a nomination process through Belfast City Council.
Mr McKee is now the 115th High Sheriff of Belfast and will take up the position for a full calendar year, January through to December.
The first High Sheriff of Belfast was appointed in 1900 with the primary role of protecting the monarch’s interests in the city. Today the role is largely ceremonial.

New High Sheriff For Belfast Appointed
A new High Sheriff for Belfast has been appointed. Alderman Tom Haire has been sworn in and the ceremony took place in the Reception Room of the City Hall. Alderman Haire succeeds Alderman Jim Rodgers, becoming the 117th High Sheriff of the city.

Councillor Lydia Patterson has been sworn in as the new High Sheriff of Belfast. The DUP Councillor, who represents the Castle area, has replaced her party colleague, Councillor Brian Kingston, in the new role. The first High Sheriff of Belfast was appointed in January 1900.

Belfast High Sheriff sworn in for 2004 term
Councillor Ruth Patterson has been sworn in as the new High Sheriff of Belfast for 2004 in a traditional ceremony in the City Hall. Councillor Patterson, a member of the Ulster Democratic Unionist Party, has served the Balmoral Electoral Area since the last local government elections back in May 2001.
