NI Tourist Board To Be Renamed
The Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) is to be renamed, it has been reported.
Its name has been changed to Tourism Northern Ireland, and is part of a rebranding of the organisation.
Announcing the changes, Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said the move will also include a refocused future strategy and hopes it will deliver a £1bn industry by 2020.
Currently, NITB has an annual budget of £24.4m and employs 160 people. It is responsible for the development of tourism in the region and marketing NI as a place to visit for domestic visitors.
She is quoted as saying: "Given the importance of tourism to the local economy, my priority is to ensure that we have the right structures in place to maximise the benefits this crucial sector can bring across NI.
"Northern Ireland has seen significant growth in visitor numbers and, more importantly, in tourism revenue over the last five years. Our challenge is to maintain and build on that momentum."

Both an advance - and a more backward step - in tourism matters were highlighted yesterday as two politicians spoke out on making the most of visitor numbers.

Summer tourism figures set to show increase
Northern Ireland’s summer tourism figures look set to show a 5% increase compared with last year, early indications show. Speaking at a meeting with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) last night, Enterprise Minister Barry Gardiner said last year's record 1,950,000 visitors to Northern Ireland, generated £291 million for the local economy.
