Power Supply Restored To Customers
Power has been restored to more than 15,000 homes and businesses overnight, following severe weather on Thursday (15 January).
Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) confirmed its crews have been continuously working to get the network back up and running for customers.
Widespread damage was caused to the network yesterday following severe gales. In Armagh, Antrim and Down, roads were blocked by fallen trees and debris, resulting in some 500 incidences of damage being reported and supply to 15,000 customers being disrupted.
Rodney Ballentine, Network Operations Manager, commented: "We had been in close contact with the Met Office during the week and were able to move people and resources to the areas most likely to be worst affected.
"NIE's incident centres across Northern Ireland were escalated from early on Thursday with NIE engineers and emergency crews in the right place to get on with the restoration work as soon as the high winds died down and it was safe to begin repairs.
"As the weather front progressed eastwards, we moved emergency crews from our NIE districts in the west to aid the repair process.
"Losing electricity supplies can be an unpleasant and frustrating experience, no more welcome to NIE than to our customers, which is why restoring supplies following weather damage is always a priority for us."
