Police Investigate Belfast Armed Robberies

Police are investigating two apparently separate armed robberies in east and west Belfast.

The first occurred at a fast food outlet on the Falls Road in west Belfast on the evening of Monday 12 January.

Two men, one armed with a knife, entered the premises at around 19:00 and threatened staff.

A sum of money was taken and the pair then fled on foot in the direction of the city centre. Both men wore blue Puffa jackets and were around 5’9” tall and of thin build.

One of the men was wearing a blue New York Yankee baseball cap and one was carrying a green backpack.

The second occurred at the Arches Retail Park at Connswater on the morning of Tuesday 13 January.

At about 05:30 a van driver who was making deliveries was approached by two men, one armed with a suspected firearm.

The driver was threatened by the robbers, who removed two bags from the rear of the van.

The driver was not injured and the two men left in a black coloured car in the direction of Sydenham. Both men wore black coats with scarves covering their faces.

It is not at present suspected that the two incidents are connected.

Anyone with information regarding the incident on the Falls Road can contact CID at Woodbourne PSNI on 101.

Anyone who witnessed the east Belfast robbery is asked to contact CID in Musgrave on 101.

Information can also be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
