Snow Warning Issued For NI

A weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland this weekend.

The warning says that following a period of stormy weather on Thursday night, snow and ice should be expected in various areas of the region on Saturday.

Overnight on Thursday (8 January) and into Friday morning, the Met Office has warned people to expect over 70mph gales in certain areas. Once this period of unsettled weather passes, temperatures are set to plummet, bringing with it the risk of ice and snow. The forecaster has said snow could be expected in each county, and at lower levels, while over high ground, up to 15cm of snow could lie.

On Sunday, the weather is expected to improve with slightly warmer temperatures.

The yellow alert is in place from 6am on Saturday until noon on Sunday 11 January). Prior to this, a separate weather warning for high winds has been put in place from 10pm on Thursday (8 January) until 10am on Friday. Counties Antrim and Londonderry are expected to be worse affected by the winds.
