Scappaticci fails in court bid
The west Belfast man alleged in numerous Sunday newspapers to be the army spy 'Stakeknife' has failed in his court bid to have his name cleared through Security Minister, Jane Kennedy.
Freddie Scappaticci, 59, wanted the High Court in Belfast to order Ms Kennedy to publicly comment on the allegations which appeared in local papers in May.
Four Sunday newspapers had identified Mr Scappaticci as British Army spy 'Stakeknife'. They claimed he was behind the murder of numerous IRA informers despite being a paid member of the British security forces himself.
However, in court today, Lord Chief Justice, Lord Carswell dismissed the application saying that to deny one person as an agent could place the life of another in danger.
Ms Kennedy has refused to make a statement on the allegations, saying it was a matter of opearational intelligence and thus could not be commented on.
Mr Scappaticci, who was not in court for the hearing, has repeatedly claimed the allegations, and Ms Kennedy's subsequent silence, has put his life in danger.

Calls for FRU activities to be investigated
SDLP leader Mark Durkan has called for a full public enquiry into the activities of the Force Research Unit (FRU). Mr Durkan made the call following this week's Stakeknife agent allegations in which a well-known republican, Freddie Scappaticci, was accused of being an IRA informer. A claim strenuously denied by Mr Scappaticci.

Sinn Fein launch collusion dossier
Sinn Féin have launched a document aimed at highlighting specific alleged collusion between loyalist paramilitaries and security forces. It emergerdf that the document was presented to Taoiseach Bertie Ahern during Saturday's talks between the Irish Government and the Sinn Fein leadership.

Court imposes media ban over Scappaticci
Belfast High Court has today imposed a ban on the media on publishing any information that could disclose the location of alleged double agent Freddie Scappaticci. The ban will also include the prohibition of the publication of any photographs taken of the former Sinn Fein member over the past three years.

£22,096 Benefit Fraudsters Convicted
Three benefit fraudsters have been convicted of claiming a total of £22,096 they were not entitled to. All three will have to repay the sums to the Social Security Agency. The biggest sum claimed was by a County Down man.
