Dissident republicans thought to be behind killing

Dissident republicans are believed to have been behind the killing of a west Belfast man on Sunday.

Daniel McGurk, 35, was shot several times after answering the front door of his Ross Road home in the lower Falls area at around 11am yesterday.

It is not known how many gunmen were behind the attack, which police described as "cold-blooded murder".

Mr McGurk's wife and some of his children were also at home when he was killed.

The father-of-six was immediately taken to Royal Victoria Hospital, where he died a short time later.

It is believed that Mr McGurk was threatened by dissident republicans last week.

West Belfast MP Gerry Adams expressed his 'shock and outrage' at the murder and said Mr McGurk had been "the victim of gangsterism and thuggery".

Police have appealed for anyone who may have saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the killing to contact them.
