Dale Farm gives record a good 'licking'
While temperatures in Northern Ireland didn't quite reach record-breaking highs during the August heat wave, one record that has been broken is the sale of Dale Farm Ice Cream lollies.
The company, which is famous for its long-standing family favourites Polly Pineapple, Pear Picking Porky, Captain Quencher, Joker and Mr Frostie, has reported sizzling sales of over two million lollies within a single week - its highest weekly sales figure since the 1995 heat-wave.
Commenting on the figures, Rory Watson, Director of Dale Farm Ice Cream, said: "Over the last 30 years, these brands have become as much a part of Northern Ireland summer-time culture as paddling at Portrush."
During an average summer week, the company revealed it can sell up to 600,000 lollies but during even a short heat-wave, demand can rise by 100%. Dale Farm hopes to break this record further if this August's heat wave continues.
