M1 Security Alert Ends

A security alert on the M1 yesterday has ended after a suspect object was declared as "nothing untoward".

Commuters yesterday afternoon and into the early evening faced long tailbacks as traffic was disrupted during the security alert.

The city-bound and west-bound off slips of the M1, at junction 6 leading to the Saintfield Road, were closed while police and the army worked to make the area safe following the discovery of a suspicious object in the area.

Army Technical Officers then declared the object as nothing untoward.
