ITV Employees Gear Up For Strike Ballot
Unite the union has announced it would be joining the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and broadcasting union BECTU in balloting its members for strike action at ITV over a below inflation pay offer.
The ballot, expected to take place in the New Year, follows a rejection by staff of a 2 per cent pay offer which the broadcaster is seeking to impose as revenues surge by eight per cent to £1.8 billion since the start of the year.
With 2015 forecast to be another year of double-digit growth, staff believe it’s time for ITV to share the rewards of success and act on pay rates that have fallen in real terms by 4 per cent in recent years.
Unite represents electricians working on popular shows such as Emmerdale and Coronation Street at ITV’s studios in Yorkshire and Manchester.
